Explore the area by foot

Greenwood trails are beautiful woodland walks starting opposite the house passing through the Finsthwaite woodland up to Finsthwaite Tower, commemorating the battle of the Nile 1799, great Knott Wood and Finsthwaite Church. Greenwood trails www.ruslandhorizons.org.

High Dam is a picturesque tarn near Finsthwaite church. A dam was built to supply water to the Bobbin Mill at Stott park. Easy pathways around the lake and brilliant for swimming in the summer.

Stott Park Bobbin Mill is a 19th century bobbin mill and now a working museum. It provided wooden bobbins to the weaving and spinning industries. english-heritage.org.uk

Lakeside & Haverthwaite Steam Railway leading to Lakeside from Haverthwaite.  There is a stop at Newby Bridge Halt which is a two minute walk from Waterside! Trains run from Easter to the end of October .  https://www.lakesiderailway.co.uk/

The historic Windermere Lake Cruises which you can board at Lakeside {20 minute walk from the house or direct from the steam train}  are a great way to explore 10.5 miles of Lake Windermere with stops at Bowness, Ambleside and Lakeside. www.windermere-lakecruises.co.uk

Lakeland motor museum, which is between Newby bridge and Haverthwaite holds a unique collections of 30,000 exhibits, in particular from the racing career of Sir Malcom and Donald Campbell.
